Ways to Get Ideas for Your Jewelry

Handmade jewelry is HOT. There’s a reason why so many crafty designer types choose to make jewelry, whether to sell, to give to others, or for themselves. So many do it, because people LOVE handmade jewelry. They love to buy it, they love to wear it, and they love to gift it. For most of those who love to DIY their own accessories, maybe the most difficult step is to come up with a good idea for jewelry making. Here I have some ways that I usually use to get ideas.

1. Get ideas from your own collection. Find the things you like and dislike. The jewelries that you bought or collected must have something that you particularly like, whether it is some specific type of materials like beads or rhinestones, or it is in the vintage style, punk style, etc. Find the things you like and list them on the paper. Then the next step is to fine the things that not good enough to satisfy you. then the idea is to turn the things you dislike to the things you like. For example, you like the design of the bracelet, but the color is too dark. So what you need to DIY is to change the color.

2.Look at stores. Go to stores that specialize in jewelry, like Claire’s, or larger stores with jewelry departments, like Macy’s, to get ideas about what you might want to make. The wide selection in stores like these will allow you to get more ideas, as well as helping you stay at the front of fashion trends.

3. Look at others. You can look at the jewelry your friends have, what you see in magazines and the internet, and what your favorite celebrities are wearing. Think about what you like about their jewelry and what pieces you really wish you had for yourself. Decide the general design of the jewelry then add something particularly you in it. It could be some pieces of small design like beads twist, shining element, etc.

4. Look at vintage pieces. In looking at vintage pieces and the history of jewelry, you can see a large number of styles very easily. Examine what aspects of the vintage pieces you like to get ideas for design elements you would like to emulate.
